Leadership for Service: The HOBY Promise

HOBY Leadership Seminars include a service component called “Leadership for Service.” This program includes the 8,500 sophomores who attend HOBY Seminars to undertake community service projects and requires a minimum total of 100 hours. This effort results in at least 750,000 volunteer service hours each year. To step up efforts to help young people realize the personal and social benefits of volunteerism and service, HOBY gives each Ambassador who successfully completes the 100 hours of service a recognition and rewards package.

HOBY’s success is the direct result of its 4,000 national volunteers who plan and run its over 70 high school leadership seminars across the country, in Canada, and abroad. With volunteers ages 17 to 70, HOBY seeks out energetic and driven volunteers who want to make a difference, motivate young people and serve their communities.

Iowa HOBY
Volunteers

Iowa HOBY volunteers contribute their time and efforts into planning the annual leadership seminar. Volunteers are also keynote speakers and guest panelists at the HOBY events. Through their companies or organizations, they provide gift-in-kind support and fund student scholarships for thousands of participating sophomores. HOBY volunteer may also serve on corporate board of Iowa HOBY – providing guidance on planning, marketing, finances, student recruitment and more.

A Junior Staff member is a HOBY alumnus under the age of 21 serving as a junior facilitator. The Junior Staff are essential to the success of each Iowa HOBY seminar.

Those who chose to participate in HOBY beyond their ambassador year help to provide others with the outstanding experience that they remember. Also, Junior Staff members are given the chance to re-connect with the friends that they have met throughout the state.

Junior Staff makes HOBY a funexciting, and engaging experience for the Ambassadors AND THEY HAVE FUN DOING IT!

If you have any questions regarding the application or requirements, please e-mail juniorstaff@iahoby.org

Senior Staff are responsible for small groups of Ambassadors during the seminar weekend. In collaboration with the Junior Facilitators, they facilitate thoughtful dialogues on leadership, role model the importance of volunteerism, and help make sure the Ambassadors have an outstanding seminar experience.

Senior Staff members come from all walks of life. While several members of the Senior Staff are HOBY alumni from across the United States, many are not. All senior staff believe in HOBY’s mission and give freely of their time and talent to motivate tomorrow’s leaders today.

For more information regarding Senior Staff, please email seniorstaff@iahoby.org
